“Crisis” is what happens when we see red flags in our people and our systems and we address the symptoms, but not the root cause of the problem.
The events that have taken place thus far in 2020 have been a long time coming, and like it or not, we are now being forced to shift. While challenging and forcing us to grow, my perspective is that ultimately these disruptions will serve to make us healthier and stronger because lots of folks have been stuck in traditional ways of thinking and behaving for far too long.
The question now is...are you going to wait until the mental and emotional needs of your staff hit a crisis point, or are you going to be the proactive leader who addresses these issues here and now? Leaders lead. They see what's working, they see what's not, and they go first in addressing what needs to happen for the benefit of their people. As much as possible, they get ahead of problems before they fester to the level of a crisis.
