Wake Up!

Yesterday a man with a gun went into three different locations in my hometown and the result was that 3 civilians and one police officer were killed. The schools went on lock down. People spent hours in a state of fear and chaos.

Humanity is sick. The diagnosis is fear.

The symptoms are:

  • depression
  • hopelessness
  • worthlessness
  • anxiety
  • hate
  • anger
  • pride
  • rape
  • greed
  • genocide
  • suicide
  • school shootings
  • mall shootings
  • terrorist attacks
  • bombs
  • threats
  • political posturing
  • manipulation
  • domestic abuse
  • child abuse
  • sexual abuse
  • alcohol abuse
  • drug abuse
  • food abuse
  • debt
  • stealing
  • cheating

and on. and on. and on.

Trace all of these behaviors back to the cause and at the root you will find fear. Every single time you will find fear.

How did we get here?

Through the mind. The human mind was not designed to make us happy. It was designed to keep us alive. It evolved to detect danger to ensure that our species survived. Which was great when we lived in caves and had saber toothed tigers chasing us. But left unchecked, the human mind will no longer serve us.

There is now too much fear to focus on. Our minds are bombarded with it. The media streams our brains with images of reason after reason after reason to be fearful. And so what do we become? More fearful. Fear begets fear begets fear begets media begets fear begets media begets fear. You get the idea.

So what do we do about it?

Who or what is going to save us from our own minds when we keep having more and more reasons to be fearful?

It seems increasingly clear that politicians aren’t going to do it. Religious leaders haven’t exactly had the best track record either. This is not the work of lawyers, doctors, drug companies, or CEO’s.

There are pockets of humanity who understand how we got here and what to do about it. These people are becoming our most valuable asset as a species. As the chaos increases, so does the awakening of humanity to the deep knowing that we must evolve. We must breakthrough our anger and our fear and our confusion to the understanding of what is possible.

The answer is so simple, so pure, so easy (and yet so difficult) that it will make you want to roll your eyes and dismiss it.

But don't.

Because enough is enough.

What is the antidote to fear?

The antidote to fear is love. Every single time, the antidote to fear is love. I get it. It sounds super Pollyanna. Super cliché. Too simple. Possibly annoying. And yet something deep inside us all knows it to be truth.

But how do we remain loving and open in a world consumed by so much fear and pain? We start with ourselves. Like my neighbor Paul says, “all we can do is clean up our side of the street.” The human mind is how we got here. And one at a time, calming the human fight/flight/freeze response of the human mind is how we’ll get out. Because once you learn how to manage the human mind instead of letting it manage you, then you gain access to the human heart and the human spirit. And that’s where our true power lies.

So what can you do to make the world a better place? You can wake up to what’s possible inside of you.

Go internal.

Get clear.

Seek out the wisdom you desire.

Set boundaries around gawking at the nightmare that humanity has created for itself and take action.

The world does not need more of your fear or your regurgitation of what is. It needs your courage.

It needs your heart.

It needs your creativity.

It needs your passion.

It needs your idealism, your ideas, your guts, and your authentic power.

Learn to manage your own mind, bust through your own fears, and show up with your huge heart and your expansive spirit.

Do you. Just do you.

And everything good and kind and healing and beautiful and loving will flow from there.
